Featured Collections
This year we are honored to feature 10 collections on the Hempsmith Runway. Here is a quick rundown of our local designers.
John Vance - Walamob
I first started screen printing my artwork onto thrifted t-shirts in 2017.
From then on I’ve immersed myself in learning about clothing production—adding new skills and techniques to my repertoire while continuing to find ways to minimize my environmental impact.
My work today is an amalgamation of sewing, screenprinting, airbrushing, and embroidering to create unique, one-of-one garments made from repurposed clothing and textiles.
TS Designs - Solid State Clothing
Solid State Clothing uses local materials and local manufacturers to craft premium-quality clothing with classic style.
We are people who believe in crafting the best clothing possible with local materials and local making.
Solid State Clothing was started in 2020 by TS Designs, a textile company in Burlington, North Carolina that has been dedicated to local, sustainable manufacturing since the 1990s.
We use 100% U.S-grown cotton to make classic, premium-quality t-shirts entirely in North Carolina and South Carolina.
Our products are meticulously crafted to be the best damn t-shirt on Earth: super-soft, garment dyed, pre-shrunk, and durably constructed for years of wear.
Anthony Adams - New Life Clothing
“I started NC State New Life Clothing to provide the Wolfpack with the best vintage clothing of NCSU history and to encourage second hand fashion because it’s kind to the planet.”
Kenzie Barlow - Natural flow designs
“I recently just started designing but I’ve always had a passion for fashion!! It all started when I was in high school, I remember going to the thrift store almost every weekend. I would find the coolest things, but a lot of the time the pieces never fit the way I wanted them to.
That’s when I started taking the clothes and fabrics I would find and making them my own. A lot of the outfits I created are made out of recycled materials like old bed sheets, curtains, scarves, and whatever else I could get my hands on :)
I believe that fashion is one of the biggest forms of self-expression and what connects us as creative beings I’m so thankful to be a part of this wonderful show hosted by an amazing brand, Hempsmith, you guys are awesome!”
Julian Jacobs - Sir Chances
Julian's the owner of Unorthodox Vintage and has the brand Sir Chance's. He looks to showcase thrifted pieces that are paid with items from his brand. The goal is to represent how a Sir Chance's piece could be worn and styled by the everyday person. To see more follow him @SirChances
SandHills Hemp Company
Featuring a new collection of Nautical inspired clothing.
Designed by Kalim Hasan in collaboration with Hempsmith.
Jeana Bowker + Sloane Byrd - Zig Designs
We are creating a recycled patchwork denim collection using old pairs of jeans as well as denim we find in the scrap bins within the Wilson College of Textiles where we attend as juniors in FTD.
Andrea Batsche - New Karma for Old Threads
Hand sewn, unique pieces with upcycled fabric.
New Karma for Old Threads opened seven years ago in downtown Pittsboro after a very successful show of my clothing designs at the Joyful Jewel gallery. My focus is to keep vintage clothing & accessories readily available for our continued enjoyment. I also recreate, restyle & upcycle clothing that is no longer usable as is. In addition, I also carry current conventional clothing that is unique and good quality.
My passion is to create designs that are fresh, fun and funky without buying new fabric since one of the biggest contributors to landfill is the fabric waste from the fashion industry. In order to help keep my designs interesting and “green” I work methodically and get to know my client so that I can give them an outfit that is truly something they are happy with. I love my job. I love my clients and that each project I do is new and original.
I truly appreciate the support of friends, family & our community to keep me going and encourage me a long the way.
Brenda Martinez - The Official Queen B

The Official Queen B spreads awareness of Bitcoin through artwork and fashion.
