Cranking Out The Customs
We’ve been busy making Hempsmith clothing as well as a few customs for good friends and local businesses.
Featured Collections
I first started screen printing my artwork onto thrifted t-shirts in 2017.
From then on I’ve immersed myself in learning about clothing production—adding new skills and techniques to my repertoire while continuing to find ways to minimize my environmental impact.
My work today is an amalgamation of sewing, screenprinting, airbrushing, and embroidering to create unique, one-of-one garments made from repurposed clothing and textiles.
On Demand Printing
I got permission to burn a screen and try out a brand new, print-on-demand model. We did a bunch of tie dye and when the festival came, we set up a pop up shop at The Plant.
Customers picked their size and color, and we printed the shirt right in front of them.
Let it dry for a few minutes, throw it on the heat press and voila! A fresh pepperfest shirt.
The whole process would take maybe 10 minutes.

The Hempsmith Runway Recap
The Hempsmith Runway is a sustainable fashion show that highlights local designers and sustainable materials. Hempsmith is helping change the culture of fashion, with a new emphasis on diversity and sustainability. Last fall, on October 22nd, 2022, designers, models, and slow fashion enthusiasts gathered at The Plant in Pittsboro, NC for the viewing of the Hempsmith Runway.
Pepperfest!
It’s that time of year again. Just as fall is nigh, it’s time for the annual Pepperfest. This is now the 15th year in a row that people from all over North Carolina have celebrated everything you can do with a pepper. Creative chefs from miles around brought their best pepper based concoctions from pepper gelato to more conventional spicy pepper chicken kebabs….all with the hope of being crowned the Pepper King or Pepper Queen.
The Fall Tour!
It all started with the Pop Up! We had some hemp T-shirts and we popped up at festivals and markets around the Triangle to get Hempsmith off the ground. Some things have changed….we have a retail location, an online store, wholesale customers across the country….
Calling Colorado Ambassadors
During a seven-day adventure of hiking, photoshoots, and talks about hemp we checked out as many of the endless adventures that Colorado has to offer as we could in only one short week. On our trip we met up with local photography Quinn Chody and trekked to the waterfalls in Ouray, climbed to a lookout over Durango, and explored backcountry caves.
Better Threads Bash 2022
On a sunny Friday afternoon the Hempsmith Team made their way to downtown Raleigh to show off their collection at the Raleigh Redress Better Threads Bash 2022. Better Threads Bash was a celebration of creativity within the fashion textile community, here in North Carolina. There were a total of four amazing collections that showcased their eco-conscious lines (Hempsmith being one of them).
Shakori Pop Up!
Spring Shakori of 2016 was kind of Hempsmith’s Debut. We were learning how to make our hemp tees and brought a backpack out to the festival. My friends and I threw a blanket down and spent the weekend selling shirts.
Waste in the Fashion Industry
Our clothing is made to last a long time. And at the end of its life it can decompose into the soil from which it came. This natural cycle is at the foundation of our brand.
Atelier Construction
Hempsmith Headquarters is born. The Atelier serves as our flagship storefront as well as our tie dye and print shop.
The Very Beginning
Learning the craft. I decked out my brothers closet as our inventory management and started hand selling our tees.
Hempsmith’s Origins
The creation of our brand. My brother, Zafer created Hempsmith back in 2014.
